Orchard Cottage has been lovingly renovated, with special attention being paid to retaining some of the building’s history, the surrounding area is managed by the Woodland Trust ( Low Burhall Woods) and offers numerous walks along the river and around the Trust.

It’s ideally placed for exploring Durham and the surrounding area, it’s near to the park and ride yet it’s totally rural setting ensures it is quiet and peaceful. With woodland and river side walks from the door it’s also an ideal place to bring a dog. The friendly welcome from a helpful owner was the icing on the cake of a great holiday.

Short drive into lovely city of Durham. Hot tub was fab, weather wasn't great while we stayed so maybe a wooden/other material gazebo type structure over to keep rain off in bad weather would be nice. Would definitely return and recommend to others

What to do in the area
The city of Durham is only three miles away from Orchard Cottage with an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, and a short drive will take you to the Roman town of Chester-le-Street or Beamish Museum.
A little further afield are the Durham Dales, Newcastle upon Tyne, Metrocentre (Gateshead), Hadrian's Wall, the Heritage Coast, Cragside at Rothbury and the North York Moors.
Centrally located this cottage is the perfect place for that relaxing holiday break.
